student visa to USA from Philippines?
I want to get my fiance from the Philippines here faster than the wait time. She is an English teacher and could come here for a short course in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. What are the chances of getting a visa for that within 8 weeks?

There is absolutely no chance whatsoever. File your I-129F for her fiancee visa and wait in line like everyone else. It should take about a year.
3 :
Zero chance in 8 weeks time.
4 :
well you can definetely apply for a student visa you can obtain an i-20 within a week if you have the necessary documents. she may be able to start classes within 2 months if everything goes well with her interview at the american embassy. for more info check this website www.f-1studentvisa.com they can definetely help you and give you advise over the phone.
5 :
http://www.ice.gov/ I am sure that the US government's Department of Homeland security will expedite this visa application through the Department of Immigration & Customs Enforcement [ICE] once you explain you're in love.

Is it possible for foreign students in the Philippines to transfer schools within a year?

Is it possible for foreign students in the Philippines to transfer schools within a year?
Hello, im a korean national, i have a student visa and am currently studying in angeles university foundation in pampanga, Philippines. it has been almost a semester and as i have come to be adjusted with the studies here in the philippines, i came to a realization that the best course for me is BS statistics major in actuarial science and not the present course i m currently taking now which is BS medical technology. As with my consultation with or university registrar, my present school does not offer the course i am looking for which is why i opt to transfer to another university providing the course in BS statistics, however, my student visa is stamped with "no transfer within one year". How can i transfer to my university of choice? Would it be possible that i cancel my present visa and apply for a new one? WHat other ways procedures must i go through?

I am not a high school student anymore. But if I were to answer your question, I suggest that you should be specific. Your question "How do you view the United States?" is very broad. It would be better if you contextualize your question (for example, my view on the United States constitution).

Don't know about the Phillipines, but in the US, the schools seem to get away with extreme things at times. Just the other day two kids were expelled for the rest of the school year for kissing on a school bus. Go figure.
2 :
Well in my opinion, it doesnt have to get to the point where the school will be sued or something. And it also depends on who is the one "in charge". Maybe he/she has a good reason why he/she rejects your request to back out. But if you think there's really wrong about the whole "scenario", I guess you have to do something about it. Maybe you(and the one "in charge") could talk it out so he/she would understand. But if worse comes to worse, you could always report it to the anyone who has the higher authority for it. ^__^. God bless. I need 2 pts...harhar..

Philippines: Student Friendly? or not?

Philippines: Student Friendly? or not?
Education in Philippines, has this been given enough attention? Does proper education can only be attained by Wealthy Filipino Citizen at this country?
Government - 2 Answers

I would say, YES! I'm a Filipino student, and I could see that our government didn't pay much attention to the needs of education. Most of the public schools lack of supplies (e.g. books, facilities, supplies, etc.) Some public students were not dressed properly, unlike the public students in other countries. The government should allot more money for the betterment of education. I agree that only Wealthy Filipino Citizens could have the good education because they could send their children to private schools. The problem is that the government prioritize much attention to the military because we all know that Philippines have terrorists and many crimes were happening. Because of that, quality education suffers. These are things which I observed here in our country. But if the government will be systematic and know how to prioritize things, no one will suffer!

Hi there, I would say that the University of the Philippines is the best school we have. I attended college there and I guess you will probably like the course that I majored in if you're into Journalism. Research on University of the Philippines in Los Baños, City of Laguna. Look for the course BS Development Communication. We have four majors under that category which are Scientific Research, Educational Communication, Broadcasting and Journalism. Some of the other UP campus doesn't have that course, only UP Los Baños offers that. Visit www.uplb.edu.ph

Being a foreign student in the Philippines ??

Being a foreign student in the Philippines ??
Hi there, I am a Canadian living in Canada but I was wondering if anybody would recommend studying in Manila for college or university? I would like to do something in either journalism, hospitality, or teaching english. I mainly want to do this because I have a good friend who lives in Manila and this might be a way of seeing her more often. Also because I would like to start my life over new there. Please any advice would be great. I guess even info on the costs of a foreign student there would help too. Thanks... Sorry, I'd also like to know this..... Are there many North American students in the Philippines ?? And also, how safe is it really to study jouranlism in the Philippines ?? Because I've heard that the Philippines is ranked the 2nd most dangerous country in the world for journalists. 2nd behind Iraq

Hi there! Thank you for your interest in the Philippines. You should be happy to know that there are lots of foreign students from different parts of the world studying here in the Philippines. And the Filipinos do not discriminate against them. In fact, one of the strong suits of a Filipino citizen is hospitality. Anyway, are your plans to study definite? I can recommend you good universities for the courses you identified. You can try visiting the websites of these schools: University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, and check out the requirements for foreign students. One reason why a number of foreign citizens study in the Philippines is that you get quality education for just a fraction of the tuition you pay, in Singapore or Hong Kong or even in the US. Professors and instructors in the universities I mentioned are required to have advanced degrees (MA, MS, MBA, PhD) in their area of specialization. Oftentimes, these teachers complete their degrees in well-known universities in the US and Europe. I wish you all the best in pursuing this endeavor. Good luck too with that good friend of yours.
2 :
Study in either De La Salle University or Ateneo de Manila - these are relatively expensive schools in the Philippines but much cheaper compared to US universities. Tuition fee should be around $2K per year (for local students) but might be more expensive for foreigners - I can check it for you if you are interested... just send me an email... The most important thing regarding starting a new life is just to make sure that you really want to change... I tried doing the same thing years ago - I left home and lived overseas. I ended up being worst. It is cheaper in the Philippines - you will probably have more money to booze and party compared to when you are there so temptation is even greater - plus there's nobody here to stop you. Bottomline - don't transfer for the wrong reasons. And remember - seasons change, people change, feelings change. Good luck.
3 :
UP (University of the Philippines) is the way to go - should be yer first choice. I hear Ateneo de Manila has good training in English too.
4 :
I suggest SILLIMAN UNIVERSITY.
5 :
My mom went to school there and she would recommend the universities in manila, especially the top rated ones, they are very good, cost would not be very expensive because the exchange rate for 1 us dollar is 55 pesos. it is safe but do not go to the southern part of the philippines.

Many Banks, financial institutions, online lenders etc are ready to offer the loans for students. But students considering their precious time and finds easy to via online as it provides easy access than other source. There are a large number of requirements other than college or course fees. Some of the most crucial are computer expense, hostel charges, books and so on. The best college student loans are one which comprises all such expenses. Well, that depends. Did you have 7th grade in elementary? The US system has 7th and 8th grade (junior high), whereas the Philippines only has up until 6th grade (and some schools up till 7th grade). If you only had grade school until the 6th grade, then you will be in the 10th grade in the US(sophomore.. which is equal to 2nd year HS).. but if you took 7th grade, then you will be in 11th grade (junior).

It really depends on which university you go to. Youth culture is different depending on which university you pick. Here in the Philippines, there are basically 3 universities (which we consider as our own "Ivy League") enlisted in the ASEAN University Network. These are, in order, The University of the Philippines, The Ateneo de Manila University, and De La Salle University - Manila (Which I attend). Should you come to any of these three schools, I don't think you'd come across any problems adjusting. Also for additional info (You may want to look into this, tho), each school specializes in certain fields. There are other prestigious universities in the Philippines other than the Top 3 mentioned The University of Santo Tomas specializes in Medicine, Music and Art. The De La Salle College of Saint Benilde specializes in Hotel and Restaurant Management, and also in the Arts (The School of Arts and Design is a must-see before leaving the country) Mapua Insitute of Technology specializes in Engineering. (Look into this as well) Also, if you'll be taking up a course related to Humanities, I suggest you attend either the Ateneo de Manila University or The University of the Philippines. De La Salle University - Manila, on the other hand, specializes in business-related courses.

Usually no, that money is to cover tuition only. In the UK they have maintenance loans to help you pay for rent and food, they may have something like that in the Philippines, you will have to talk to the Financial Aid office.

Any University of Philippines Student? (Other foreign students in Philippines also welcome to answer)?

Any University of Philippines Student? (Other foreign students in Philippines also welcome to answer)?
I am quite interested for enrolling University of Philippines (UP). I found the tuition fee for foreign student is quite cheap (compare to private university in my hometown). However, from the attachment file I received from UP, I found out that the living costs given by the UP are way to high, Its about PHP 300,000 per year! Its like about US$ 500 per month, which is way to much for me. So I would like to know, how can I cut the living cost while studying in Metro Manila? (for reference, I will paste the original living cost details given by UP):- One Year (Two Semesters) Lodging ***(10 months) International Center (800-1500/mo.)P 20,000 + Electric Appliances (500/mo.) Board (P12000/mo. For 10 months) 120,000 School Related Materials & Equipment 100,000 Rental (P10000/mo for 10 months) Personal allowances (P5000/mo. 50,000 For 10 months) Laundry (P1500/mo. For 10 months) 15,000 Total P305,000 (This does not include travel, clothing, and other incidental expenses). PS: What is "Board" (the P12000 per month), why does it cost so much? And must I rent hostel units in the school compound? And must I pay the laundry? Can't I wash my cloths by myself? Sincere answer is deeply appreciated. (No trolling please. ) Thank you.

I think this is just recommended or referral, but i guess you could live in other places in manila but it's hard to find one that is safe and real deal. i think board means lodging. maybe you could go to the UP's official website and check, this might not be the real deal. because as i have heard UP is not as expensive as other schools but they have excellent students!
2 :
wait :)
3 :
The "Board" there is the estimate of your expenses for food. As for the Rental, I have no idea. But, if you are to stay in the International Center (which is a dorm for foreign students) then you don't have to rent another. I stayed at Kalayaan Residence Hall (a UP dorm for freshmen) and what we were only allowed to wash were our undergarments. I think it depends on you if you are to avail the laundry service there. (I availed the service of a laundry woman provided by the dorm, but it was 700php/mo, cheaper.) There are other laundry services which you can avail inside the campus, the cost depends on the weight of your laundry, i think it's around 25Php/kg. Here are the dorm rates: https://dormapplication.upd.edu.ph/downloads/Dorm_rates_2011.pdf In the international center (IC) , the rate depends on how many you are in a room. The electric appliances cost depends on what appliances you use in your room and they have respective rates (idk if it's the same for IC but in our dorm, it's 120Php/mo for printer, 120Php for a 12" electric fan, etc...) ------------------ There's an available wifi connection in dormitories. You just have to set a few things in your browser, then log in your UP webmail account (you'll have one once you enroll). You can use that if you want to spend less money, it's not that fast and is only for research, but if you want to cut costs then you can use it instead of buying yourself an internet plug-in. Compared to other boarding houses/dorms, UP dormitories are cheaper. You get 24/7 security and you would get to enjoy fun events of the dorm (we had a sports fest and all, I think there's a cultural festival or something in IC, I'm not sure but I'm certain there's an even there 'coz my roommate sang a Filipino song there) There are certain orgs in the campus which sell second hand books. You just have to find which org sells what. There is however a place where there are lots of second hand books, but I don't recommend you to go alone there 'coz you might end up in a dilemma considering that you are a foreign student (your money might get stolen or something), it's a place called Recto. If you'll go there, I suggest you have someone who's familiar with the place to accompany you. Oh and don't wear a UP ID, they usually don't lower the price for UP students.
4 :
seems like they gave you their dorming fee. heres the tip. find a relative and friend that can board you. offer a pay of $150.00 a month. thats about 6,000 pesos. infact find a Dorm nearby for P 5,000 or lower. You need some one to help you scout and not just do online searches so that you wont get scamed. Also some apartments can rent out a place for Php 8,000-11,000 thats around $200 the UP Dorm for International students is PHP 800.00 Male ( 2 ina room) thats $20.00 a Month if you choose to live at the dorms be sure to adhere to the rules https://dormapplication.upd.edu.ph/downloads/Dorm_Terms_and_Conditions.pdf also dorming in the philippines is tricky you can get a room up to 5 ppl in a room. not recommended if youre a foregner not used to the culture. families may offer a boarding rate cheaper and let you use their washing machine. there are no laundrymats in the philippines that do self wash. There are Laundry stations where you drop off the clothes and you can come pick it up later, all washed and folded for around P150.00-300 the school related materials.....um if you go to Natonal Bookstore you can buy your books and school supplies there for under $30. Unless your books are the big medical books that must be bought in the campus store then a book is about $12.00- $20.00 im sure $30-40.00 a week is more than enough for you for food. Clothing for men are cheaper than women. But you can go on a $40.00 shopping spree ( thats around php 1,700.00 ) to buy clothing and toiletries Now Bills get a cellphone and apply for a prepaid plan. You can reload up to $5.00 ( PHP 200.00) worth of call credits. I sugges get a iPhone from Globe so you can use Skype for international calls Electricity can go up to PHP 300.00/month for dorms or lower Internet- if you have a laptop buy a braodband usb for $20.00 from Globe or Smart carriers then do either a prepaid or post paid plan. Either way its cheaper and they charge buy the minutes

I'm not surprised. They've placed buffers, and have not placed it the lowest possible rates so foreign students could make lots of adjustments. I studied in UP and here's what I've allocated myself monthly: Php12,000 monthly (Php400 daily allowance for food, transpo) Php4,000 boarding house rent (inclusive of wifi, cable, utilities) Php1,000 laundry Php3,000 monthly allowance (clothes, school supplies, malls) ======= only Php20,000 a month! For a fact, I was spending more than most people. I had my own room that didn't have curfew. I had generous lunch always and even afforded to go out with friends to watch movies, drink in bars, and kill time in coffeeshops. Considering too I've batchmates who got their bedspaces for only Php1,500 a month! Lunch in UP would average at P60 even, so you could I guess I was snacking up a lot to consume all of my Php400. My transpo to and fro home was just Php40--my boarding house was in UP Village.

Well, surf the internet for one.

Well most private schools offer these services. But some are just done between sister schools. Your school might help you with this if you ask. They could find you a good school here in this country. Try looking up foreign student exchange services given by top universities like University of the Philippines, La Salle an Ateneo.

I'm will be studying abroad in the Philippines in October; how do I get an international student loan?
Im going to school abroad in Saint Louis University in Baguio, Philippines for a couple years. I'm going there to get my nursing (BSN) degree. I need a student loan to make a living there for at least 3 years. My pocket money is not going to last. So I would need financial support. There is no one to help me financially, I have to do everything on my own. How do I go about???

I don't know about international student loans, but what I'm sure of is that if you're from a country that's richer than third world countries, then you will find life in the Philippines a lot cheaper than what you're used to. See if you can get a scholarship at SLU. Many college students also manage to get part time jobs at McDonalds, Jollibee, Greenwich, or other fastfood outlets. If you have great English communication skills, you can even try working part time at call centers. They offer very good salary rates which may even be more than enough for your needs.
2 :
Studying abroad - whether it is a student from the United States traveling to another country or a foreign student traveling to study in the United States - is becoming more and more popular with each passing year. Studies show that more than two hundred thousand students from the United States study abroad every year, while almost six hundred thousand international students seek to attend college in the United States. The only problem is the consideration of financial aid as it applies to international students. Fortunately, there now exists international student loans designed especially to help students from the United States to study abroad and to aid international students with studying in the United States. In fact, international studies are becoming so popular that most international student loan programs also help students from Canada to study elsewhere and international students to come study in Canada.

I'm pretty sure you apply to the US university as a transfer student.
2 :
Many students transfer from one school to another. Go to see the admissions department at a state school near you. They will need your transcript, and probably an evaluation of it by a recognized organization (that helps when the grading systems are different- the organization can tell the U.S. equivalent for the score you got). An admissions person will determine how many transfer credits they can give you. You may not get credit for all the courses you too, and you may have to pick up some of the courses that freshman and sophomores take. U.S. schools usually have "general education" requirements in English, math, social sciences, and sciences that universities in other countries don't require. But you still should be able to complete your degree.
3 :
Unfortunately, there is no memorandum of understanding between the Philippines' Engineering Accreditors and CAC/ABET in the USA, so you're unlikely to get advanced credit for entry into a CAC/ABET-accredited USA Computer Science degree program. However, there are many schools in the USA that are not CAC/ABET-accredited, so they may evaluate you transcript favorably.

is a laptop necessary or needed for a college nursing student here in the philippines ?
well i'm thinking can a laptop really helpful in college especially a nursing student here in the philippines ? or is it just a waste of money ? is a HP Pavilion ok or can you recommend others, cheap but has good features...please help me...=)

I don't see how any college student can be without a computer, and especially a laptop. I'd recommend that you look at the Dell Inspirons. Some really good pc's for a very reasonable price. Hope this helps.
2 :
hello, im a nursing student in UST and I believe that laptop is not that necessary. I have a laptop but I don't really use it.. Hehe. An internet cafe is usually sufficient for doing research and presentation. Just find cheap internet cafes. I go to NETOPIA just across my school and they have a promo of 15 pesos per hour. That's cheap enough for me. Oh, my school, UST has FREE internet in our library, so I research and do my computer works there most of the time to save money, not to mention FREE internet connection and FREE enjoyment of COOL AIRCON!! no joke. Hahaha.. ANother point you may want to consider is that laptops cost A LOT and they add to your STRESS in college life since you have to take care of it really good. If you lose it, well, it's the end of the world. Hahaha. Personally, I survive without laptop. I survive with only Internet cafe (Netopia) and of course my USB. USB are very important for storing files and can store a LOT. So basically, laptop is good but not really necessary unless your really craving for it. All of my classmates, 50 of them, do not have laptops and they don't seem to have any problems with it. Laptop is more for medicine student if you want to pursue medicine AFTER nursing.. Goodluck
3 :
Definitely a plus for education purposes. Helps with research and saving your review materials. Just having the net at your side for quick reference is reason enough. There are a lot of good choices out there. I have a intel desktop but also have an acer laptop I use. For good discounts, check out the Gilmore area. Or browse pc-express or villman pc. Happy buying!

can i apply for a student visa in the philippines from USA?
can i apply in the Philippines instead of applying it here in the US philippine consulate because im still lacking the acceptance letter from the school that im going to go to since i didn't take the entrance exam yet and im planning on going to nxt month to go to philippines and take my exam there and file the visa there instead of going back and forth in US and PH since that costs a lot of money

It is necessary that you apply for and secure your student visa at the nearest Philippine embassy/consulate here in the US. You should not bypass this policy and apply directly to Dept. of Education (DepEd) in Manila, since the Phil. diplomatic posts here in the US have been authorized by DepEd to scrutinize American documents then authenticate it. The intended school's acceptance letter of your application as a student in their educational institution is the very first step in this lengthy process.

Rarely do degrees "translate" from one country to another. Often there is a drop of one degree level when you move to a foreign country. A bachelors degree is equivalent to a high school diploma. A Masters in equivalent to a bachelors, etc... The exception is if you have expereince and a career history in your home country. Normally in that case you can pick up where you left off, if you have a work VISA. I don't know how the medical licenses will play a role, however.
2 :
Type in www.american dental association.com====you may find the answer there.Good luck.
3 :
yes . u need to go to another 2 years study to be a hygienist , of course u need to pass the exam too. send your transcript of records to the ECE with your diploma . they will evaluate your degree.

There are a few cardinal rules for looking for ligitimate online jobs: 1) If they asks for any type of fees, RUN FAR AWAY! 2) You will most likely not find a plain ol' data entry job. 3) Work at home jobs are not any easier than regular jobs you do outside the home, anything promising lots of money for doing nothing is a scam or a bad business opportunity. 4) Do not "process payments" for anyone, you could end up in the big house. 5) Is the job they are offering going to "change your life", I doubt it. I go to church for that kind of stuff. 6) Legitimate companies will not advertise for jobs in banners or spam emails. As you can probably tell I've seen just about every bad job offering out there and I get really irritated with all the promises and such. And I hate to see good people throw away their money. With all that being said, I can tell you that there are legitimate jobs out there. It's just a matter of finding them.

why not putting up some stuff for auction on e-bay, you can offer your services ( maybe home typing ) or selling some items on the site

Short of applying for a call center agent job (which sucks big time, by the way - but I hear the money is good), the best jobs that would help you earn a decent amount of money are those offered by fastfood chains such as Jollibee or McDonald's. I think they have night and day shifts that allow you to fit these around your classes. There are also a lot of people I know who got through college by working at these jobs. If you want a home-based job, you could advertise yourself as a data encoder or copy writer, and do other clerical stuff. Pretty dull work and you get paid by the hour, but at least this means you can work at your own pace. Good luck! :D

I happen to meet a culinary student from the Philippines on my way back to Chicago, in 1999. She said that she was being sponsored by a hotel in FL. She first went to her mom in Chicago, then went to FL then after the time limitations, she stayed. In short, write a letter to certain hotels here in the U.S. where you can have your externship. If you are lucky, of course, you'll shoulder the expenses, unless you are being sponsored or the hotel becomes interested in you. If you have a lot of money, try taking a culinary arts as a foreign student. If you're here, everything will be as 1-2-3.

First, let me clarify a significant misconception on your part: - You will not be "abandoning" your citizenship by travelling to the Philippines because you're not even a U.S. citizen yet. Right now, you are still a Philippine citizen so you will not need a Philippine visa to visit the country of your citizenship; Having said that, if you want to study in the Philippines, my recommendation is for you not to until you do get your US citizenship. However, if for some reason you feel compelled to risk all that and matriculate there, I offer two strategies that are not foolproof but may be worth a try: 1) Go attend school there but make sure you return to the USA every 6 months during semester breaks. It's gonna cost ya in airfare and in delaying your 5-year residence requirement but whatever it takes, eh; 2) Go get a re-entry permit from the USCIS. It will give you a one or two year window to leave the US and not have to come back every 6 months or so. There is no guanrantee that immigration will grant you this permit. As with option #1, the time you spent outside the US will delay your USCIS legal residency requirement of a minimum of 5 years, with several continuous years in between. Don't complicate matters. Study in the USA and just vacation there in the summer, 3 months at a time. Simpler. Cheaper. Little risk.

Not anymore. For one - interns started on January 17 in most states. For another internationally trained medical students are no longer eligible to complete an intern year in Australia - there are not enough places for the current Australian students to do this.

No, you have to get accreditation from Medical board in Australia. usually, once has to take extra classes to qualify and take government exam. Australia has a higher standard, that is why Australian education is highly regarded internationally.
