Can i get a student visa when I get to the country I want to study in?
I'm planning to go to school in the Philippines and i'm going there without a dual citizenship or anything like that. My plan was to go to my school of choice, take the entrance exam, then get my student visa. Would i be able to do that or would i need my student visa ahead of time somehow? Any advice would be helpful, Thank You. Don't i need to go there to take the entrance exam in order to obtain the acceptance letter. How is it possible to get a student visa without the school of choices' acceptance.

You need to do things like that in advance. Way in advance. Good luck.
2 :
You cannot legally enter a school and study without a student visa. No school will process your application to accept you as a full-time student without your visa, and it takes months in advance to get one. It's not something you can just get done in a day.

What can be a good practice schedule for a high school student playing the violin?
What can be a good practice schedule for a high school student playing the violin?
I am 14 years old and in 3rd Year High School (Philippines). I don't want to seem like I'm bragging or anything but I am an honor student so I have to study hard to maintain my grades. I usually study for 6 hours and maybe even more if there's a lot of homework. I'm equally passionate though on practicing my violin and considering on being a professional someday. If there is a schedule that you can suggest, I would really appreciate it. :)

You will find that practising an instrument actually helps with the ordeal of studying. 6 hours homework a day sounds like a lot - have you tried to find "shortcuts" so that you can do the same amount of work but in less time? I taught a boy who was studying piano at a very advanced level and he was able to fit all his practice into a one hour session every morning before school. That way, he didn't have to worry about it for the rest of the day. He appeared on television and everything so he certainly knew his stuff. If your parents are willing to sit with you during your practice session (at least initially) in order to keep you on track, that can help. Remember, it's not the amount, but the FREQUENCY, that matters.

I will be studying in the Philippines starting in November, but I don't know how to get a student visa, I don't know how long it takes, how much it costs, and how long it will be valid (I'm hoping to be there for 4 years). Does anyone know the step by step process for getting a student visa ? And also do I have to go to the consulates office or can I apply from my home? I live in California right now if that happens to affect anything.

No, you would not be able to become a spanish citizen through your wife. You would have to live there and go through their process, and your wife being half spanish would not have an impact.
2 :
It would be a three step process : 1) Your wife would have to get a Spanish passport 2) You would both have to move to Spain 3) You would have to live in Spain for a certain amount of time and then apply for naturalization.
3 :
Your wife is not even a spaniard nor a resident of spain. Now how would marrying her help you become one? If she could, maybe she would have been there already. So, nope.
4 :
really? What school do you go to? Universidad De Santo Tomas? Ateneo De Manila? La Salle? ...:) I'm not sure with your question because my father is Spanish, but since he and his great grandparents were born in the Philippines. They weren't considered Spanish citizens still. There is a lot of Spanish Filipinos in the Philippines I'm an American Citizen, because Is pent more than 5 yrs in America. But I'm not American

How can I get a Student Visa to Canada From Taiwan ?
Hello! I'm an overseas foreign worker from Philippines, I would like to apply from Taiwan for Canada. How long does it take to process for a student visa? What requirements do I need to settle? How about applying for other visas such as work and immigrant, which one is more easy and fast? Thanks for your suggestions or comments you could share to me.

"easy and fast". Two words immigration don't like to hear. Another red flag for them will be that you aren't applying from your own country.
2 :
You need to get a work visa first before you can even come here. Unless you are a student you cannot apply for a student visa. If you are a student you'll have to show a letter of acceptance to a Canadian university first. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp
3 :
You need to apply to a Canadian college or university and be accepted before you can get a student visa. Once you are accepted the visa will be straight forward. However, you will pay very high tuition and may not work off campus. Otherwise, the work visa application information and forms are here:

My sister, 22, wants to come to the UK to study and work, from the philippines. She is looking to live with us, (her family) in Norwich, and to study and work here in Norwich. could anyone be of any help? We dont know what to do really. She has found an agency which will help her to get through, but to study in london. which she doesnt want. plus they want a show of money of 10,000 pounds in her account. there must be some other way. hopefully we have enough time to get her into college this september 2009. PLEASE could anyone give us information on requirements, etc =)

First of all she picks where she wants to study. The school/college/university has to be an approved education provider, licenced to bring students to the UK under the Tier 4 category. She needs to get a visa letter from the educational institution confirming the unconditional offer of a place on a course. She must also show that she has sufficient funds to pay for the first year's tuition (for courses longer than 9 months) and sufficient funds to maintain herself without recourse to public funds. This amount outside of London £600 per month and she will need to show she has at least 9 months funds available i.e. £5,400. In London this amount would have to be £7,200 plus the first year's tuition fee, so it could easily be £10,000 she needed to have in her account. If the visa is granted, this will allow her to work a maximum 20 hours per week during term time. She can work full-time outside of term time, but work must not interfere with her studies.

How can I pass to the most prestigous university in the Philippines, UP?
Without the intention of bragging, I am an honor student (specifically 3rd honors) in my school. My forte is English and a little bit mastery in Math. UP tends to be competitive because this is one of the most chosen universities here in the Philippines. Can you give me some advises on how to pass here in the mentioned university. And can you give me some topics to be reviewed? Thanks a lot!

Hi, I assume you are on your third year in High school, isn't it? If your fourth year now, then the examination for aspiring students for school year 2011-12 already happened on August, the result was posted this month and there's no round two for examination. Half of your UPCAT score came from your high school grades, the other half is from your exam score. All of your grades in major high school subjects, like Math, English, Science, etc. (excluding Religion or elective courses, etc. or CAT) are averaged using standardized weights and they'll get the 50% of it. The other 50% comes from your exam. The exam is a right-minus-wrong type, for every four mistakes, 1 point is deducted from your score. You can leave uncertain answers blank, but it doesn't assure you to get the most of 50%. UPCAT is all about language proficiency, reading comprehension, mathematics and science. I suggest you to start reviewing all your maths, science now, extend your vocabulary and read some articles a lot. It would help you. If you have the money, then you can have the choice to enroll on a reviewing center, though it still doesn't assure you. If you do not, schedule a group study session with your fellow examiners, or maybe your school will schedule a review for entrance examiners of different school. Sometimes, UPCAT questions have their "seasonal focus", for example, during my take last 2007, math questions are focused on geometry, of course, there are some comparison questions (like which of the following is greater, the right hand or left hand side, etc.), science was focused on genetics and biology. Of course there are some stray questions about physics, or chemistry sometimes.

Which Universities in the Philippines take in second semester foreign transferees?
Which Universities in the Philippines take in second semester foreign transferees?
I am a college student in America, and would like to continue studying in the Philippines for nursing, since the wait list here is too long. I know that the school year has already started in the Philippines, but I was wondering if the universities over there take in second semester tranferees, because I would really like to transfer as soon as possible because i dont want to waste a whole year. Also, which are good schools for nursing in the Philippines?

why the Phil.? I'm Filipino and i went to school their for 3 years of college. it kinda sucks, didn't get the job i wanted once i came back here. might wanna think about that. Plus if you dont speak tagalog it's hard to understand wtf ur classmates are talking about cuz they just keep speaking in tagalog. Plus the credential exams, the clinical are totally different in many ways like diagnostic equipment are super old school. but if ur really up to it filipinos love to interact with foreigners. best of luck!
2 :
The universities with the best professors in nursing is UST or University of Santo Tomas. That's according to my mom who's a Registered Nurse here in the US. About having second semester transferees, you may contact UST because I'm not sure about that. UST is one of the top 4 greatest universities in the country. it depends on the individual if he/she is lazy, hardworking, naturally smart or just don't care at all. It depends on yourself. So, not everyone will turn out like the first answerer. St. Dominic Savio's another good option.

Is 10th Grade equivalent to 4th year high school in the Philippines?
Is 10th Grade equivalent to 4th year high school in the Philippines?
So I'm a 10th Grade student here in Vienna, Austria. And the educational system is very much the same to that of in the US (with all the middle school and high school stuff) My family is planning to move back in the Philippines and I'm planning to apply in certain universities. What I'm worried about is, if I would be considered a 4th year high school student, since the graduating year here is the 12th. Help?

Yes. In the Philippines, the highest achievement below college is 4th year high school. But there's a bill that may or may not be passed about adding two extra years. Note: It all depends on the school you go. Some schools have Grade 7, some don't.
2 :
If graduating year in your country is the 12th (so is in the US) then as a 10th grader you are at 2nd year in high school in the Philippines. What matters most is that you have to pass their education standards.

For federal aid, the school must be on the FAFSA list. I suppose you could get a private loan. Contact the school in the Philippines you wish to attend. Go to their website and see what you can find.

Which is better, UP (University of the Philippines) or ADMU (Ateneo de Manila University)?
Which is better, UP (University of the Philippines) or ADMU (Ateneo de Manila University)?
I am currently a fourth year high school student in the Philippines. I need to decide which university I will enter once I graduate high school. Please help me decide; give reasons for your answers. Moreover, what are the course specializations of both universities. I am thinking of getting a business or computer-related course.

I'll be doing my best to be not-so-biased. i have great friends from ADMU who really are smart. Smart, which means, they really know how to interact and present themselves to others. They're confident and bold and they can really good in leading. I'm from UP. the thing that distinguishes them from the rest is the way they relate with people from the masses and they really are critical/creative thinkers. If you're pursuing business, you might as well take ADMU but UP is also as good. As for computer-related courses, you go to UP.
2 :
You have to determine first which of the two universities you'll pass their entrance exams. If you're a senior high now then probably you already have UPCAT permit (entrance for UP) since examination period for that is about weeks away. If you don't have any UPCAT permit right now then I would say you missed the opportunity of taking an exam at UP right before you graduate. However Ateneo do entrance exams called ACET around November then a second round in January I guess. If you missed that UPCAT permit then you should take the option of going to ACET instead. Or I'll suggest you to try Mapua since it's another leading school (they have IT, Computer Science and Computer Engineering courses). Mapua don't have examination day deadlines, just go there and exams are usually scheduled many times every year. So what's next? Supposed you passed UP and Ateneo exams both how are you going to choose? Foremost think on how much your parents' budget are allotted for your college education. I say of the two, UP has the lower tuition rate. And compared to DLSU, UST and Mapua, UP still has the lowest rate. Both are good schools though. You should always consider the money your parents will pay for college. Suppose you'll have a scholarship. In my experience as a UP student right now budget is always in-demand. Apart from money management I should always manage my time. As you can see it is difficult to study in college with no too much money.

Is there an enrollment fee for students in the Philippines?
Is there an enrollment fee for students in the Philippines?
Do public schools charge an enrollment fee? What about uniforms, are they mandatory in public schools? What about tests and exams, is there also a fee for these? I heard that both public and private elementary and high schools both have these fees. Is this true?
Philippines - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
As far as I know, public elementary and high schools no longer collect tuition fees. Unfortunately, there may be other fees that the teachers might ask guardians or parents to pay. About uniforms, there are prescribed uniforms in every public school (female: white shirt or blouse and a specific color of pleated skirt, male: brown/khaki shorts or pants and white shirt or polo shirt, and black pair shoes of course) but I think some elementary schools, especially in remote areas, no longer require students to come to school in uniform. Exams - no, they don't need to pay anything except probably for the photocopy of the questionnaire.
2 :
Private elementary schools such as Catholic schools charge a 2,000 pesos fee every 3 months - this fee has to be paid at the start of the quarter in order to attend the exams. Of course they still have to buy their own books and uniforms and pay their own way for any excursions. But they are taught to speak English - which gives them much more of a chance in life. I dont think that there is a fee for public schools. they still have to have uniforms, but the education is of a lesser standard, and the kids - especially the boys are susceptible to falling into 'fraternities' or gangs in the poorer areas of the provinces. Public schools do very litlte for their morale or to give them any real skills - basically making them fodder for the farms and low paid wage jobs.
3 :
I'm not too sure about public school, but I do know that private schools charge hefty enrollment fees. Last time I checked, it was about Php 60 000 to attend 4th year high school in most of the private schools in Cebu. The fees increase every year, so it could be much higher than that now. Parents often have the option of paying per semester or paying for the whole year. Textbooks, notebooks and materials are at the parents' or students' expenses. For both public and private institutions, uniform is usually required and parents have to pay for those too. I don't think that standard or required exams carry individual fees (it's usually included in the enrollment fee), but some special exams (i.e. university/college entrance exams) might require a separate payment.

Is it worth it to spend one whole year in Philippines as an exchange student? or cultural exchange student? I see some foreigners who go home after a month or two.. Maybe they didn't like it here..>.<

NO
2 :
Why not. As long as you are an exchange student in the top universities (De La Salle and Ateneo come to mind) and you have decent quarters near school. Also helps to befriend nice people, who can show you around.
3 :
Depends on what you want to learn. If you want to study poorness then you came to the right place but if you want richness, then industrialized countries is your target.
4 :
It is, you see education here is really serious and has a goal. someone i know who got a lot of A's in her card went to america and the principal was surprised she got a lot of 90's, coz in her new foreign school, 85 is considered high. no offense to anyone, just pure truth. education here in the phil. will get you somewhere in life.
